Abstract

Last century has witnessed a tremendous success of laser cooling technology in the fields of precision spectroscopy, time and frequency metrology, quantum optics, and solid-state optical refrigeration. In solid, the thermal energy is stored as lattice vibration, i.e. lattice phonons. Here I will report my studies on laser cooling of phonons in semiconductors. Firstly, I will introduce the laser cooling of the whole sample by using phonon-assisted photoluminescence up-conversion. It includes the laser cooling studies on II-VI semiconudctors, organic-inorganic perovskite semiconductors, and diamond. In second part, I will introduce laser cooling of one specific lattice phonon by using resolved sideband Raman technique.
