Abstract

Phosphorus shows a great variety of structures in the solid state , the most common forms being or- thorhombic black, cubic white, monoclinic violet (Hittorff's), fibrous red and amorphous red phosphorus. The layered black Phosphorus modification (b-P) got recently much attention due to its potential as a new material for electronic application. There are a number of compounds, which are isoelectronic to phosphorus. Therefore several of these compounds possess also a layered structure and similar electronic properties. A systematic theoretical analysis demonstrates the potential of such compounds for electronic applications. Furthermore, it will be shown how these systems can be combined in multilayer stacks with other well-known compounds as for example the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMX2 – e.g. NbS2).
